  1. Tell us about yourself.

Here the interviewer requires you talk about your background and work experience. Relate your background/experience to the job you have applied for.


  1. What do you know about us?

This question requires you to have done your homework regarding the organisation. You may visit the company website; look in the “about us” section, google the company for any press releases or ask persons who have worked there.


  1. Why are you interested in working for us?

Let the interviewer know why you want to work there and how you would be an asset to the organisation.


  1. What sets you apart from others we are interviewing?

Ensure to market yourself highly on this question because the interviewer basically wants to know why you are most suited for the job out the many that were shortlisted. Give instances when you excelled on the job for example you have excellent communications which have enabled you to communicate with all persons from different walks of life (shows you’re a people person, great client relations), your analytical skills have enabled you to solve problems that wouldn’t have been easily solved.


  1. How are you when working under pressure?

Most organizations have moments of pressure, for example an unexpected increase number of clients, sensitivity of the case being handled by the organization, increase in amount of work with limited time to deliver e.t.c. During these times an employee is required to deliver excellent positive results despite the circumstances. To respond to this question inform the employer that you have the ability to work well under pressure and deliver the best of results.


  1. How do you handle conflict?

Conflict is part of us and its bound happened anywhere including the work place. It may be between bosses, partners, staff and clients. Key issue here is for you to know how to handle conflict in a manner that won’t damage the image of the organization and your career. Always respond to the question, by showing ways in which you would resolve a conflict even though you have never experienced conflict at work.


  1. Where do you see yourself in five to ten-years’ time?

The employer wants to know that you will stick around and as such you should demonstrate how committed you are to the kind of work for which you are applying and explain how you would like your career to progress e.g. “I see myself as a Supervisor” or “I would like to progress to the position of an attorney”.


  1. How would you describe your work style?

Work style is important to every organisation therefore it’s important that you address this question effectively. You may say; I am an organized person who requires minimal supervision. I can organize my work very effectively. When I work, I focus all my attention to the task at hand and because of that I am able to complete my work in a timely manner. I am a multitasker who prioritizes tasks and presents results effectively.


  1. What are your strengths and Weaknesses?

Your required to pick a job related strength (not something you do for fun) for example you can say you have excellent communication skills, detail oriented, analytical ability, people skills etc. As regards weaknesses; we all have flaws therefore answering well shows maturity and self-awareness.  Make sure you state a weakness that is actually a strength for the job for example a perfectionist in moderation is someone who is detail oriented.


  1. Do you have any questions for Us?

Most times people tend to ignore this question but it’s one of the important questions that makes one stand out from the competition. Focus your questions on the company, it must be a question on the company profile, information you heard about the company e.t.c. Key message here to always have a question to ask in case this question is asked.
